Project name

Load Maps

Structural engineers used to look up climate load values in national standards. Now they find them on a map, anywhere in the world.

Description

Challenge: Dlubal Software builds structural analysis software. Engineers needed the snow, wind and seismic zone for every building site - and every country defines them in a different standard.

Solution: We processed the standard maps of many countries into a single GIS database and built an interactive map that returns the right values for any address. The data is also available via an API that Dlubal sells as a service.

Outcome: Engineers around the world use Geo-Zone Tool in the browser and via the API. It is a long-term collaboration and we keep extending the database.

Technologies

  • QGIS
  • PostGIS / MySQL
  • Leaflet
  • OpenStreetMap
  • REST API

Data & tech

  • Sources: code-based snow, wind and seismic load maps from many countries.
  • Processing: QGIS, a unified GIS database (PostGIS / MySQL).
  • Map: Leaflet on OpenStreetMap.
  • Outputs: an interactive map and a REST API that Dlubal sells as a service.
  • Coverage: worldwide, continuously extended.
